I have found that attempting to use both the 'Equation' button (insert tab) and subscript/superscript button (home tab) will not yield the desired results. Until the system has been fixed to work optimally, use the subscript/superscript button without attempting to use the 'Equation' button. The equation as a building block, which makes it available from the “Insert” ribbon. “Professional” means that the equation should be displayed as a formatted equation. “Linear” means to show the equation in its raw form, similar to the way that the equation was typed, but with some of the typed codes translated into special characters.
